Henri Kattenburg was a son of Andries Hijman Kattenburg and Maartje van Straten. He married in Amsterdam on 18 October 1911 to Engeltje Hijman, a daughter of Levie Hijman and Rachel Reens. The couple had three children: Mathilda, Rachel and in 1917 a son who has survived the Holocaust.
