Hijman Speelman was a son of Simon Speelman and Marianne van Abbe. He moved in May 1905 from Amsterdam to The Hague. He moved in with his parents on the Schenkweg. He married on 1 November 1905 in The Hague to Elizabeth Frijda. They had a child the same year. Hijman Speelman was a sales representative.
