Theodor Maximilian (Tommie) Beer was a son of Janek and Frieda Beer. In 1938, after the 'Anschluss' of Austria with Germany, he came with his mother and sister to the Netherlands. He lived with his uncle and aunt. His parents died in Auschwitz. His sister survived the war.
