About Adolph Stein

Adolph Stein was the son of David Stein and Gracia Rodriques Lopes. There were six children in the family. Adolph’s father, David Stein, died in the ring at Carré circus theatre, where he worked as a clown. Adolph began selling flowers at a young age to support his family. This earned him the nickname Bloemen Mozes (‘Flower Moses’). Adolph Stein was married three times. His first wife was Elisabethe Marinus, with whom he had six children. His second marriage was to Catharina Heppener. They had three children. He had a single child with his third wife. After the divorce, Adolph Stein went to live at Falckstraat 30 (or possibly 20) in The Hague. Late in his life, Adolph Stein wrote his memoirs, which are now being adapted for the theatre. A book will also be published in 2008.
