A surviving member of the family remembers Jetty Mendelson: 'Her hair was so thick that you could lift her up by it.' She was a stunningly beautiful, much-loved sister. She worked at the Apeldoornse Bos psychiatric institution, together with a close relative. The relative decided to take flight on the night before the institution was evacuated. Jetty refused to go, and they parted on bad terms.

According to the Sterbebücher of Auschwitz Jetty Mendelson died on 16 Februari 1943. It is possible this date is different from the official day of death as established after the war by the Dutch Department of Justice.
