Henri Gans was a son of Maurits Gans and Henriette Spier. He lived toghether with his brother Salomon in Culemborg.

The Culemborg police commissioner requested that the brothers Salomon Gans and Henri Gans, both without any occupation and residing at 82 Westersingel in Culemborg, be located, detained and brought to trial. They were suspected of having changed their place of residence without obtaining the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
Identifying characteristics of Henri Gans: 'About 5'7" tall, short stature, dark-brown hair parted on the right, oval face, pale complexion, pointed nose; bareheaded; attire unknown, as he has taken along his entire wardrobe. He is carrying ration documents.'
