Rudolf Emanuel de Bruin was the owner of a printing business and the publisher of the local paper De Vechtstreek. He played a prominent role in public life, and was a member of the municipal executive for many years. On 17 December 1941 his business was closed by order of the Sicherheitspolizei in Zwolle.
