Biography

About Anton Zaligman

Anton Zaligman was the son of Jacob Zaligman and Roosje Heimans. He remained unmarried. His neighbours say that during the war he hung a noose over the staircase in his home, so that he could take his own life instead of being picked up. This plan was unsuccessful. During the night of 2 October 1942, he was picked up and transported to Westerbork. Soon after arriving there he became ill. He was admitted to Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen, where he committed suicide.
A detailed account in Dutch, including eyewitness reports, can be found at the Meppel Digital Jewish Monument.
