Andries Creveld and his family

Andries Creveld, son of Emanuel Creveld and Sara Gotlieb, married Mietje, daughter of Eliazar Levie and Betje Hartog, in Zuidland on 24 July 1929. Before her marriage Mietje Levie worked with her sister Judith as a seamstress at a workshop in Rotterdam. They travelled from Zuidland to Rotterdam daily by trolley car. Andries Creveld and Mietje Levie met through an advertisement in the lonely hearts column. On 24 May 1931 their daughter Betje Sara was born, who was known as Beppie. With the arrival in the Netherlands of Jewish refugees from Germany in the late 1930s, Andries and Mietje took in Ruth Nussbaum, age 11, from Emden, as a foster child. In the summer of 1942 Andries was sent to the labour camp at Vledder.
