Jacob Abraham Menko and his family

Jacob Abraham Israel Menko was married to Rozetta Franken. The couple had an unmarried son, Siegfried Bernard, and an unmarried daughter, Truitje Louise, as well as a child who survived the war. The family lived on the Madoerastraat in Amersfoort. Jacob Abraham Israël Menko was director of the EPA.

The Amersfoort police commissioner requested that Jacob Abraham Israël Menko, a department store buyer, his wife Rozetta Menko-Franken and their children Truitje Louise and Siegfried Bernard be located, detained and brought to trial. They resided in Amersfoort and were suspected of having changed their place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding. The third child of the Menko family was listed as missing as well.

Jacob Abraham Israël, his wife Rozetta and their children Siegfried Bernard and Truitje Louise were caught in hiding in Gelderland in July 1943 and were deported to Sobibor.

We have been unable to determine whether one or more members of this family survived the war. While their names do not appear on the lists of survivors, we have not been able to trace them in In Memoriam either. They are therefore labeled as 'surviving' and their names are not listed.
