Maurits Reens and his family

Maurits Reens was a son of Jacob Reens and Anna Reens. He married Esther Prins, the eldest daughter of Abraham Prins and Grietje Levitus, on 29 September 1937. Their marriage certificate lists Maurits Reens as an upholsterer and Esther Prins as an overcoat decorator.

Esther Prins was born on her mother's seventeenth birthday at the women's ward of the Wilhelminagasthuis. She was raised by her mother's elder sister Frouwktje Levitas, who was married to Aaron Klijnkramer.

After their marriage Maurits Reens and Esther Prins moved in with Frouwktje Levitus and her husband, the waiter Aaron Klijnkramer, at 11 Reinwardstraat in Amsterdam East. On 1 March 1940 their daughter Anna was born.

In March 1942 Maurits was summoned to one of the labour camps. On 2 October 1942 he was sent to Westerbork; that same day his wife Esther and their daughter Anna were taken from their home and transported to Westerbork, from where the family was deported to Auschwitz.
