Israel Corper and his family

Israel Corper was a son of Levie Corper and Heintje Hamel. He married Herta Salomon on 21 August 1940. In 1941 a child was born to the couple. They were planning to escape to Switzerland, but they got no further than Amsterdam’s Central Station, where they were betrayed by someone who was accompanying them and arrested. While Israel and Herta were held at the Hollandsche Schouwburg, their child was placed in a nursery on the other side of the road. The child was smuggled out of the nursery to a safe hiding-place by resistance fighters and survived the war.
