Joseph Fonteijn was a son of Simon Joseph Fonteijn and Roosje Kunstenaar. He married on 5 October 1911 in Breda to Esther Stranders, daughter of Simon Stranders and Sophia Morisco. The couple had two children: Corry and Rosa.
