Biography

About Mijer Brilleman and his wife Schoontje Aandagt.

Mijer Brilleman was born in London on 12 May 1864 as a son of Levij Brilleman and Rebecca Visschraper. Mijer stayed also in Antwerp but Amsterdam still was their domicile where he earned his living as a food retailer (grocer). Meantime Mijer was already married on 2 January 1884 in Amsterdam to Schoontje Aandagt, a daughter of Eliazer Aandagt and Lea IJzerkoper. Schoontje was born in Amsterdam on 14 March 1867.

Together they had eight children, of whom Eva already died on 27 November 1894, only 4 months old. Their son Israël who passed away on 12 March 1932, was only 34 years old and married to Elisabeth Blog. He was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. The other children were Eliazer (1886), Levie (1888), Leentje (1890), Simon (1892) and Esther (1895). They all have been murdered with their families during the Shoah.

Mijer and Schoonje lived in the Lange Houtstraat 1st floor in Amsterdam since 27 April 1931. There in the end of September/early October 1942 they have been arrested and taken to the Hollandsche Schouwburg from where they arrived in Westerbork and already immediately were deported to Auschwitz in a transport of 2 October 1942.

After arrival there, Mijer Brilleman and his wife Schoontje Brilleman-Aandagt were immediately murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
