There is a death certificate from Auschwitz for a "Hartog Doof" that was improperly imputed with a date of birth of "0000-00-22". This is likely Hartog, and if so, he died on 21 Dec 1942 as labor in Auschwitz.
He was deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz on 19 October 1942.
