Biography

About Mozes Dingsdag, his wife Alida Delden and their children Mietje, Helena, Jacob and Rika.

Mozes Dingsdag wat the 5th child of Levie Dingsdag and Mietje Theeboom. He was the 3rd Mozes Dingsdag, who was born on 24 Novembe 1903: two previously born children named Mozes, have died shortly after their births in 1896 and 1899. Also later, again a child with the name of Barend died shortly after his birth in 1907 .

Mozes Dingsdag was a tailor by profession. He married at the age of 21 the 16-year-old Alida Delden, who was born on 29 January 1907 as a daughter of Jacob Delden and Leentje Ossedrijver. The wedding was held on 21 November 1925 and on 10 February 1926 their first child was already born, a girl, named Mietje. Thereafter came yet Helena on 2 December 1927, Jacob on 13 November 1932 and Rika on 27 June 1936.

After being married, Mozes and his wife lived at Korte Houtstraat 31 but soon thereafter, they moved to the back-house of the Foeliedwarsstraat 34-2nd floor at the end of September 1926. On 3 July 1927 they moved in with Mozes’ parents, Levie Dingsdag and Mietje Theeboom in the 2nd Oosterparkstraat 48 groundfloor, who lived there already since 3 January 1927. Almost two years later, Mozes, his wife and two children moved to Vrolijkstraat 28 1st stock.

After four more changes of addresses, they arrived to live at Krugerplein 15 3rd floor, where at the same time his brother Joseph Dingsdag came living at the 1st floor. Joseph was married to Sientje van West and he had a little son Levie, who was born on 5 October 1933. At the same time Mozes and Joseph and their families moved  again, together, to the Blasiusstraat 120 2nd floor on 6 August 1937, from where Joseph and his family moved on to nr. 80 3rd floor on 1 February 1938. Mozes and his family remained living at nr. 120 2nd floor until their deportation.

On 19 September 1942 all members of the Mozes Dingsdag family were registered in Westerbork and subsequently deported to Auschwitz on 25 September. Upon arrival there on 28 September 1942, Alida Dingsdag-Delden and her children Mietje, Helena, Jacob and Rika were immediately murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

On the other hand, upon the arrival at the "Rampe" on 28 September, Mozes Dingsdag was selected as labourer and put to work then as a forced labourer in Auschwitz. It is not known where he ended up and what kind of “labor” he had to do, nor his exact date of death is known.

From testimonials of survivors, the Dutch Authorities after war’s end have established, that due to the harsh and inhumane conditions there, Mozes Dingsdag no longer could be alive after 31 January 1943. The Municipality of Amsterdam then was commissioned to draw up a death certificate for him in which has been established that Mozes Dingsdag has died in Auschwitz on 31 January 1943.
