About Isaäc Vos.

widower of Mietje Visser.

Isaäc Vos was born on 25 April 1868 in Amsterdam as a son of Abraham Joseph Vos and Alida de Vries. He married Mietje Visser on 30 December 1891 in Amsterdam. Mietje was born there on 29 January 1869 as a daughter of Barend Visser and Sientje Abraham Berkhof.

The Vos-couple had ten children in total, namely Alida in May 1892, Barend in November 1893, buth he died already one month later in early January 1894. Then came Rebecca in October 1894, again a Barend in September 1896, who survived the Holocaust due to his mixed marriage. Abraham was born in September 1898, Bloeme in Januray 1901, Eva in April 1903 and Benjamin in April 1907; he too survived the Holocasut and passed in 1983 at Nieuwegein. Then came yet Joseph in May 1910 and Heintje in November 1911.

After their wedding on 30 December 1891, Isaäc and Mietje lived at Zwanenburgwal 33 in Amsterdam, but moved already on 24 March 1892 to Joden Houttuinen 73. Then many other moves followed, in the same street and also others to i.e. Markensteeg, Rapenburg, Vrolikstraat, Retiefstraat and in the end on 31 Mai 1935 to Cilliersstraat 27 ground floor in Amsterdam-East.

Beside the many relocations in Amsterdam, Isaäc and his wife Mietje and the already born children Alida and Rebecca, left for Antwerp in May 1896, where Isaäc tried to find a job in the diamond industry as polisher, but after two months, in July 1896, they returned unsuccessful to Amsterdam. In the Peoples Registry of Amsterdam, Isaäc was registered as labourer, hawker and diamond polisher.

In May 1935 Isaäc Vos became the main tenant at the address Cilliersstraat 27 groundfloor. He arrived there from Archimedesweg and some of his children and children-in-law lived in with him. For example also Wijbe van der Hoek, the later ex from Bloeme Vos. They divorced on 8 December 1938. Also his son Barend with his son Jaak lived in there, and also Isaäc’s sons Joseph and Abraham and his unmarried daughter Alida. Isaäc’s wife Mietje Visser however passed away on 24 May 1937 and she was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.

The 75-year old Isaäc Vos ended up in barrack 65 in Westerbork as a result of the large raids of May 1943 in Amsterdam and was immediately put on a transport of more than 2860 deportees to Sobibor on the 25th of May. On arrival there on 28 May 1943 he was immediately murdered in the gas chambers there.
