Biography

About Isaac Davids and his family.

Isaac Davids was the eldest son of David Davids and Betje Godschalk. He was born on 1 October 1901 in Rotterdam and married 2 December 1926 the non-Jewish Ariena Johanna Adriana Philipse, who was born on 9 June 1903 in Den Helder as daughter of Philippus Philipse and Jozina Kap.

Isaac was a commercial traveller by profession, just like his father and after his wedding day he went lodging with his wife at Bergweg 357a in Rotterdam. On 11 August 1927 they left Rotterdam for Amsterdam, where they found a home at Waverstraat 73 2nd floor, from where they moved to house nr. 64 2nd floor in 1934.

His unmarried brother Meindert Davids also moved to Amsterdam on 23 March 1939 and came to live in with Isaac and Ariena in Waverstraat 64 II. Meindert left his brother on 19 January 1940, still lived at two different addresses in Amsterdam before marrying Alida Hoost on 3 July 1940; the couple then moved in at Lekstraat 166 with Poons, but on 5 March 1941 they moved in again with his brother Isaac, possibly because his wife Alida is about to give birth; on 30 March 1941, Donald Davids is born there.

On 16 February 1943, Meindert, Alida and their newborn son Donald were carried off from Waverstraat 64 to concentration camp Vught. Meindert eventually was murdered in Auschwit but Alia and her son Donald in Sobibor.

Isaac and Ariena had a daughter Betty, who after the war got married to H. Wortel. Isaac and Ariens remained living in the Waverstraat in Amsterdam, where Ariena passed away on 24 July 1975 and Isaac on 25 September 1986.
