Emancipation

Equal rights for Jews.

As a consequence of the French Revolution, Jews in many parts of Europe were granted equal civil rights, as happened in the Netherlands in 1796. From that point onward, Jews were officially equal to non-Jews. In social circles, however, the distinction between Jews and non-Jews lingered for a long time.
