A failed flight to Switzerland

Kurt Moos, his wife Gerda and their little daughter Yvonne (born May 22, 1939) tried in July/August 1942 to flee to Switzerland through occupied France. They made it till Morteau (Dept. Doubs), close to the Swiss border. They may have been turned back, though we have no nominal evidence of this. They were arrested in Morteau on August 16, sent to jail in Pontarlier, transferred to the German sector of the Besançon prison on August 28, before being sent to camp Pithiviers, and then to Drancy. Kurt and Gerda Moos were deported to Auschwitz on September 18, 1942 (convoy Nr. 34).

Little Yvonne was separated from her parents either in Pithiviers or in Drancy, probably entrusted to the UGIF, and survived the war.
