About Emanuel Coerant

Emanuël Coerant, born 27 December 1899 in Amsterdam, was the younger brother of Louis Coerant and son of Jacob Coerant and Sientje Philips. His father passed away already in 1902, when he was not yet three years old. His mother Sientje remarried in 1910 Hartog de Beer from Harlingen, who was born there in 1865, but passed away in Amsterdam in 1918.

Emanuël Coerant was unmarried and he earned his living as commercial traveller in haberdasheries. Up from 1932 he lived at several different addresses in the city and previous to that, he stayed also for some time in Antwerp. His last known address was per 1 May 1941 Amstel 167 parterre.

During the war, Emanuël was employed at the Jewish Council, but he had no exemption from deportation. He worked as house warden and night watchman at the education department of the Jewish Council at Professor Tulpstraat 17 in Amsterdam.

On 30 April 1943, Emanuël was carried off to Westerbork where he ended up in barrack 60. On 4 May he was put on transport to Sobibor, and on arrival there on 7 May 1943, immediately killed.
