Biography

About Levie van Straten and his family.

Levie van Straten was the eldest of the three children of Sara Sealtiel and Elkan van Straten. He worked as an office clerk for an insurance firm and married 16 April 1931 in Amsterdam Elisabeth Peekel, a daughter of Simon Peekel and Henderina Mendels. On 15 April 1933 their son Harry was born.

The Van Straten-Peekel couple lived at the Kuinderstraat 43 3rd floor in Amsterdam-South, located parallel to the Rijnstraat. On 9 April 1943 they were called and carried off from there to Westerbork where they were registgered and accomondated in barrack 61. Only more than five weeks later, they were deported to Sobibor on 18 May 1943 and on arrival there on 21 May 1943 immediately killed.
