Emanuel van Moppes was born on 18 April 1883 in Amsterdam. He was the 6th child in the family of eight children of Isaac van Moppes and Schoontje Cohen. He married on 30 August 1906 in Amsterdam, the 23-year old Grietje Kattenburg from Amsterdam. She was a daughter of Meijer Kattenburg and Debora Garf and was born on 23 August 1883.
