Biography

About Rebecca Ossendrijver, her husband Barend Yzak Vleeschdrager and their daughter Bilha Sipora.

Rebecca Ossendrijver was the youngest daughter of Andries Ossendrijver and Hanna de Vries. She married 15 December 1927 in Amsterdam the 2-year elder Barend Yzak Vleeschdrager, a son of Yzak Vleeschdrager and Bilha Sipora Velleman. Barend Yzak was slaughterer by profession and he worked at the abattoir.

After their marriage in Decembefr 1927, Barend Yzak and Rebecca lived at Ruyschstraat 92 3rd floor, where in 1929 also Rebecca’s parents Andries Ossendrijver and Hanna de Vries came living in. On 2 July 1937 all moved to Tilanusstraat 19 2nd floor and 2 years later, on 22 August 1939 both families moved in a house in the same street on nr. 22 parterre.

Rebecca and her daughter Bilha Sipora were taken to Westerbork on 12 Septemb er 1942. Her mother Hanna de Vries, who was widowed in 1940, followed the next day and her husband Barend Yzak arrived 14 September in Westerbork.

Hanna de Vries has been deported to Auschwitz only 25 September 1942 but on arrival there on 28 September immediately killed. The Vleeschdrager family was put on transport to Auschwitz already that 14th of September, where Rebecca and Bilha Sipora on arrival there on 17 September 1942 immediately were killed.

The transport of 14 September 1942 with 902 deportees, stopped at Kozel, which is located about 80 km. west from Auschwitz. There 120 boys and men between 15-50 years of age were forced to leave the train; they were deployed as forced laborers in the surrounding satellite camps of Auschwitz. Those who remained in the train were transported onwards to Auschwitz and on arrival there nearly all were immediately killed.

Barend Yzak Vleeschdrager presumably belonged to the group who had to leave the train. Eventually he ended up the the labor camp of Blechhammer, which appeared to be one of the largest sub camps of Auschwitz and were one made petrol from coal. Barend Yzak eventually lost his life there on 30 November 1943.
