Biography

About Joseph Vos and his wife Mietje Bierman.

Joseph Vos, born 10 May 1857 in Coevorden (Drenthe), was a son of Izak Mozes Vos and Helena Vroom. He married there on 16 June 1893 Mietje Bierman, born there too on 8 November 1859 as daughter of Aron Bierman and Hendrika Kropveld. The couple had two children, namely Izak in 1894 and Henderika in 1896.

Joseph Vos, butcher by profession, lived with his wife and children in Coevorden at Van Heutzsingel 62. Their son Izak, who was married around 1925 to Henriette Cutzien from Oldenzaal, (usually named Krukziener), lived with wife and children at Bentheimerstraat 53a in Coevorden and daughter Henderika, who married 11 December 1925 Hijman Arie de Leeuw, had their residence at Zeedijk 28 in Hilversum.

Izak Vos and his family was carried of to Westerbork and from there deported to “the East”. There his wife and daughter were killed in Auschwitz and he himself and his son have lost their lives in labor camps in that region.

Henderika Vos with her husband and two children had to move in April 1943 to Amsterdam and mid May were all put on transport to Sobibor and on arrival there immediately killed.

Joseph Vos and his wife Mietje Bierman were both carried off from Coevorden to Westerbork where they arrived 3 October 1942.  However only 23 February 1943 they were put on transport to Auschwitz and on arrival there on 26 February 1943 where they have been immediately killed in the gas chambers.
