Biography

About Samson Cauveren.

Samson Cauveren, born in Amsterdam on 18 March 1896, was a son of Hartog Joseph Cauveren and Vrouwtje Monnickendam. Except that he worked in the diamond industry as cleaver and polisher, he was an opera singer too. He married in Amsterdam on 16 December 1891 Henriette Saphier, a daughter of Samuel Salomon Saphier and Saartje Goudsmit.

Samson and Henriette had three children together: Hartog in 1892; he survived the Shoah. In 1894 Samuel was born; he lost his life in Auschwitz in February 1944 and their daughter Vrouwtje, born in 1896, was also killed in Auschwitz in September 1942.

Henriette Saphier passed away 18 September 1912 in Antwerp and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Putte. Samson Cauveren remarried then 10 May 1916 in Amsterdam to Clasina Helena Monné, born in Amsterdam on 30 August 1890 as daughter of Nicolaas Helenus Hendricus Johannes Monné and Alida Margaretha Geertruida Schindeler. From his 2nd wedlock with Clasina four children were born: Sidney Samson, Freddy Theodor, Raymond René and Tosca Clasina.

Because Samson worked in the “diamond”, he regularly stayed in Antwerpen. And after his 2nd marriage – perhaps with his newly wed wife too, he stayed in the years between 1916 and 1920 in Lemberg (Ukraine – nowadays Lviv), presumably in his capacity as opera singer. In the end Samson moved with his 2nd wife to Amsterdam again, where they came living per 27 July 1938 at Plantage Parklaan 8-ground floor.

Clasina Helena Monné and her four childen surived the war. Samson Cauveren however passed away in Amsterdam 7 September 1941 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen 9 September 1941.
