About Meijer, Nathan and Marcus Gobets.

Meijer, Nathan and Marcus Gobets, children from the 1st marriage of Aäron Gobets and Sientje Leijden van Amstel who did not survive the Shoah. They were unmarried. When their parents divorced 18 April 1930, they all were already unsubscribed from their parental home address. Their eldest sister Elisabeth was already married in 1928 and survived the Shoah; probably their sister Femmetje and brother Machiel too

Meijer Gobets, a pedler and flower vendor, left Amsterdam for Amersfoort but returned in 1935 to Amsterdam and lived than at Transvaalstraat 103 upperhouse. His brothers Nathan, a bicycle boy and deliverer and Marcus, who has worked also as a domestic servant, lived already since the mid-1930’s with their stepfather and guardian Benjamin Roodenburg at Iepenweg 21 3rd floor in Amsterdam. He was married with their mother Sientje Leijden van Amstel. Also Meijer came living in with them in July 1940.

From the registration card of the Jewish Council of Marcus and Nathan Gobets, it has become clear that they probably answered the German call for provison of additional work in Germany. They were registered in Westerbork 25 July 1942 and already 27 July 1942 deported to Auschwitz. There, on arrival on 30 July 1942, they were selected to do forced labor in or outside the camp. It is not exactly known when, where and under what circumstances Marcus and Nathan Gobets have lost their lives. Therefore their official date and place of death has been established as 30 September 1942 in Auschwitz.

It was not possible to determine on the registration card of Meijer Gobits what happened to him. No notes were made about arrival in Westerbork and date of deportation. The only thing known is that Meijer Gobits has lost his life in Auschwitz on 21 May 1943.
