Biography

About Salomon van de Giessen.

 

Salomon van de Giessen, born 5 June 1875 in Sliedrecht, was a son of Jozeph van de Giessen and Lea van Koppels. He married Hanna Noot in Leimuiden on 22 June 1894, a daughter of Hartog Elias Noot and Judic Jedje van de Giessen. The couple had nine children, of whom Hartog died at the age of 21 in 1919 and Mozes died only 4 months old in March 1903. Three children, Joseph Salomon, Lea and Mirjam have survived the war but Zadok, Jetje Saartje and Hermanus were killed during the Shoah, just like their parents. 

After their marriage, Salomon and Hanna resided shortly in Leimuiden bur moved to Amsterdam in October 1895, where they lived at some different addresses. On 2 Ocober 1908 their address became Prinsengracht 68 ground floor in Amsterdam.

Salomon van de Giessen was taken to Westerbork on the first day during the raids in Amsterdam on 2 and 3 October 1942 and he was sent that same 2nd October 1942 to Westerbork, but he was not registered there. Salomon immediately had been put on transport to Auschwitz. On arrival there on 5 October 1942, Salomon van de Giessen was immediately killed.
