Mussert

Anton Mussert was the founder and leader of the Dutch fascist party the NSB (national socialist movement).

Unlike the party name suggests, the party was not particularly racist at first. Mussert‘s chief objective was to establish a national socialist Dutch state that would encompass other Dutch-speaking areas, such as Belgium and parts of Northern France. These areas were to form a ’Greater Netherlands‘. The NSB also advocated holding on to the colonies. Pressured by the more extremist party members, including Marinus Rost van Tonningen, the party shifted closer to the line of the German NSDAP and started to emphasize preserving the pure Aryan race. Some groups within the NSB formed squads of thugs (like the WA) to impose their ideas.
