Biography

About Jozef Wolff, Miena Leman and their children Schoontje, Abraham and Eli.

Jozef Wollf (usually called Jo), a son of Eleazer Wolff and Schoontje Denneboom, cattle trader from Meppel, married 6 June 1933 in the synagogue in Dedemsvaart Miena Leman from Balkbrug, a daughter of Abraham Leman and Betje Davidson.

Miena Leman, seamstress, lived at Balkbrug (municipality of Avereest), at the old address I 51, today Meppelerweg 46, but after her marriage in June 1933, she lived with Jo Wolff at Woldweg 41 in Meppel, where she had three children, namely Schoontje in 1934, Abraham in 1935 and Eli in 1938.

The Jozef Wolff family has been deported to Westerbork in the early days of 3-5 Octber 1942. Jozef’s wife Miena was pregnant of their fourth child, which was stillborn 10 December 1942 in Westerbork. It was interred in Assen 14 December 1942. The family had to stay in Westerbork in barracks 59 and 62, till they were all put on transport to Auschwitz 2 February 1943. On arrival there 5 February 1943, they were all immediately killed.
