Biography

About Koos Vos.

Koos Vos, born 1866 in Kampen, was a son of Isaak Vos and Lotje de Leeuw. 31 October 1906 he married Rachel Lievenag in Enschede; she was born 10 September 1971 in Borne and a daughter of Salomon Lievendag and Rozetta Sleisner.

Koos Vos was born into a family where in 1861 a baby-girl was born, who however died after only 11 days. Of Isaak Vos and Lotje de Leeuw no other children are known.

Rachel Lievendag was born in 1871 into a family with in total eight children. Her siblings were Dina (1865), Meier (1867), Joseph (1869), David (1873), Vrouwtje (1875), Eva (1877), and Willem (1879).  Dina, Meier, Rachel and Willem have passed away already before the war, but Joseph, Vrouwtje, Eva and David self, were killed in the Shoah.

On 15 November 1911 a stillborn child was born into the family of Koos Vos in Kampen. No other children of Koos and Rachel are known. Rachel Lievendag passed away 17 February 1920 in Kampen, 48 years of age. She was interred in the Jewish Cemetery at Rondeweg in IJsselmuiden, which belonged to the municipality of Kampen.

After the passing of Rachel Lievendag, Koos Vos married again 18 November 1920 to the 47-year old Henriette Cohen from Nijmegen, a daughter of Meijer Cohen and Sara Wolff. However, she passed away already after a few years of marriage in Kampen on 25 May 1923 and she too was interred in the Jewish Cemetery at Rondeweg in IJsselmuiden, municipality of Kampen.

On 20 March 1924, Koos Vos married for the third time the 52-year old Heintje Heilbron from ‘s-Graveland, a daughter of Andries David Heilbron and Mietje Rubens. With his wife he lived at Boven Nieuwstraat 59 in Kampen. There he passed 17 March 1941 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in IJsselmuiden , municipality of Kampen. His widow Heintje Heilbron was deported to Westerbork 10 April 1943 where she died 29 April. 30 April 1943 she has been cremated there and the urn with her ashes was placed on the Jewish cemetry in Diemen.
