Biography

About Jacob Groen.

Jacob Groen, born in 1920 in Den Haag, was a son of Mozes Groen and Rachel Leidensdorff. He was a window dresser and unmarried. Since November 1934 he lived with his parents and sister Suze at Jan van Riebeeckstraat 81 in Den Haag.

Jacob Groen was deported from Den Haag to Westerbork 4 October 1942 and put on transport to "the East" 5 October. This transport of in total 2012 persons was the 1st transport of the conveying of 10.000 persons from the Jewish labor camps to Germany. The transport stopped at Kozel, about 80 km. West from Auschwitz, wherer 160 boys and men between 15 and 50 years were forced to leave the train, in order to be employed as forced laborers in the surrounding sattelite camps of Auschwitz. The remaining deportees were transported further to Auschwitz and killed there.

Jacob Groen has been employed as forced laborer in the concentration camp of Blechhamer, were he lost is life 31 December 1943, most likely due to deseases, hardship or exhaustion.
