About Marcus Lazarus and the fate of the daughters of his 2nd wife Bertha van Zuiden.

About Alie Roza Denneboom, her sister Eva Alida Denneboom and her husband Samson Leijden van Amstel.

Marcus Lazarus was a son of Lion Lazarus and Esther de Jong. 19 Decembe 1900 he married in Zaandam Sara Coltof, a daughter of Salomon Levie Coltof and Esther Bak. She passed away however 24 September 1924 in Amsterdam. Marcus and Sara had no children.

In 1926 Marcus left Amsterdam for Antwerp, but returned to Amsterdam, where he married 26 April 1933 the widow of Israël Denneboom, Bertha van Zuiden from Ambt Hardenberg, a daughter of Meijer van Zuiden and Carolina Denneboom.

Bertha van Zuiden, born in Enschede, was married 6 December 1911 previously to Israël Denneboom from Avereest, (a son of Abraham Denneboom and Eva Denneboom) and they lived in Enschede, Kalanderstraat 31. There, both their daughter were born: 6 April 1916 Eva Alida and 9 August 1919 Alie Roza.

However, in his first wedlock, Israël Denneboom was married 27 December 1901 to Bertha’s sister Rosa van Zuiden, who passed away early January 1909. She was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Enschede. Israël Denneboom self passed away 20 June 1930 and Bertha passed already after three years of marriage to Marcus Lazarus on 24 September 1936. They were both interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Enschede.

After being married in 1933 to Bertha van Zuiden, Marcus Lazarus moved to Enschede too, and started living with Bertha and her daughters in Kalanderstraat 31. In December 1938, the widower Marcus Lazarus moved with his two stepdaughters to Beukinkstraat 37 and 2 August 1940 to Getfertweg 4 in Enschede.

Marcus Lazarus and his still unmarried stepdaughter Alie Roza Denneboom moved to Amsterdam 15 April 1941, where they came living at Vrolikstraat 245 down floor. Eva Alida had left Enschede already a few months earlier: she had moved 6 November 1940 to Nieuwe Amstelstraat23 1st  floor in Amsterdam, where she married one year later, on 26 November 1941, the furrier Samson Leijden van Amstel, a son of Louis Leijden van Amstel and Grietje Salomons, who resided at Rapenburgerstraat 122 2nd floor. However, already before their wedding of November 1941, Eva Alida and Samson were registered together at the address Vrolikstraat 245 down floor too.

Marcus Lazarus was locked in 30 January 1943 in barack 69 in Westerbork and deported to Auschwitz 9 February. On arrival there 12 February 1943, Marcus Lazarus was immediately killed.

Alie Roza Denneboom, her sister Eva Alida with her husband Samson Leijden van Amstel were deported in May 1943 to Westerbork where they had to stay in barack 70. 18 May 1943 they were all put on transport to Sobibor, together with another 2500 deportees. On arrival there 21 May 1943 they were immediately killed.
