Let me out, where there's fresh air and laughter!

Nannie van Praag Sigaar appears in the book Naar buiten, lucht en lachen! by Bob Polak, which is a walking guide of Amsterdam based on Anne’s writings.

The British passport of Nannie's mother served to protect the family from deportation. One day her classmate Jacqueline van Maarsen (author of several books that detail her friendship with Anne Frank and her own family history) called on the family: ‘A neighbour saw me and said in a rather nonchalant tone: 'Carried off' and then he repeated 'carried off, the lot of them' . . That made me realize how indifferent people were about about the deportation of the Jews.’

Nannie also attended Anne Frank’s June 1942 birthday party. Together with Eva Hansje, Elly de Jong and Danka Zajde, she gave Anne a book as a gift: Goedemorgen, melkboer!  (Good Morning, Milkman!) by Ine van Etten.
