About Paul Ernst Pfeffer

Paul Ernst Pfeffer, born in Düsseldorf, was a son of Salomon Pfeffer and Anna Marum. He married  Lilian Helene Katz from Cologne on 29 October 1943 in Camp Westerbork. She was born 29 August 1923.  Before she was deported to Westerbork, she was unmarried and lived in Amsterdam at Beethovenstraat 81 3rd floor; Up from July 1942, Paul Ernst lived at Blauwe Distelweg 1 at Asterdorp in Amsterdam-North, where about 300 Jews were housed, forced by the Germans. Before this move, he lived at Laren. After deportation, both stayed at the so called “Stammlager” (original camp) of Westerbork, where Paul Ernst had a job as typist and therefore, he was exempted from deportation. (gesperrt because of function).

4 September 1944 however, Paul and his newly wed wife Lilian were put on transport to Theresienstadt. Lilian Helene Pfeffer-Katz survived the Holocaust but Paul Ernst was deported again 1 October 1944, from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz, but he lost his life eventually at concentration camp Dachau 8 January 1945.
