Biography

About Benedictus Sanders, his wife Sara Boeki and daughter Johanna (Jopie).

Benedictus Sanders, son of Abraham Sanders and Esther Fransman, married 24 August 1921 in Rotterdam Sara Boeki, a daughter of Azor Boeki and Johanna Bronkhorst. Per 2 November 1940 Benedictus and his family lived at Heemraadstraat 5a in Rotterdam and from 1941 at Van Houtenstraat 26a, where in that year also his father-in-law Azor Boeki moved in.

Benedictus and Sara had two daughters, namely Esther in 1921 and Johanna in 1926. (nickname Jopie). Esther, who was married 27 May 1940 to Louis Bremer and had two children, lived at Nieuwe Binnenweg 196b in Rotterdam. She self, her husband and children were killed in the Shoah. Also her sister Johanna, who still lived at home with her parents at Van Houtenstraat 26a, was killed in the Shoah, just as her parents.

Benedictus Sanders was  deported from Rotterdam to Camp Amersfoort as a “criminal case” and “according list 0160” put on transport “direction Auschwitz” 16 July 1942. According further notes on his registration card of the Jewish Council “he has been deceased 17-18 August 1942 in Auschwitz”. (list 643 page 20).

20 October 1942 his wife Sara Boeki was deported from Camp Westerbork to Auschwitz together with her daughter Johanna. Some three days later after arrival there, Johanna has been killed 26 October; her mother Sara Sanders-Boeki was killed 5 October 1942.
