The fate of Jacques van Gelderen and his family.

Jacques van Gelderen was a son of Gabriel van Gelderen and Flora Harpman. 10 Decembe 1930 he married Sophia Kleinkramer in Rotterdam, a daughter of Simon Kleinkramer and Betje den Hartog. In 1935 the couple had a son: Simon Gabriel.

The family lived at Sliedrecht, Stationsweg 32 and they were deported to Camp Westerbork from their home address. 15 August 1942 Jacques, his wife and son were registered there. At the registration card of Jacques van Gelderen a note was made that “he had lost his summons (to report to work in Germany)”  but at the cards of Sophia Kleinkramer and Simon Gabriel was written that they arrived in Westerbork “without summons”.

17 August 1942 the family was put on transport to Auschwitz; upon arrival there 19 Autgust 1942 in Auschwitz/Birkenau, Sophia and her son Simon Gabriel were killed immediately. Jacques van Gelderen however had to do hard labor in Birkenau before he was killed there. His date of death is establisched as 30 September 1942.
