About the family of Mordechai Pinheiro

Mordechai Pinheiro, cigar maker, was a son of Jacob Pinheiro and Elisabeth (Betje) Oppenheimer. 7 June 1899 he married in Amsterdam Anna Pinheiro, a daughter of Abraham Pinheiro and Sara Vaz Nunez. 24 March 1900 their son Jacob was born but in 1902 the family moved to Belgium, where they started living in Antwerp till 1936 and then they moved to Berchem, Neptunusstraat 7

In June 1940 the family of Mordechai, Anna and son Jacob lived again in Amsterdam; shortly at Transvaalstraat 120 and per 29 June 1940 at Nieuwe Kerkstraat 16, at the Fernandes-Nunes Gesticht (Institution), an almshouse for Portugese-Israëlitic ladies elder than 60 jaar. However, 3 May 1941 they all moved to Plantage Kerklaan 22 I.

The archive of the Jewish Council reveal that Jacob Pinheiro was registered in Camp Westerbork 22 July 1942 and deported from a work camp to the East. Eventually Jacob Pinheiro lost his life somewhere in Mid Europe 31 March 1944. He was unmarried.

The registration cards of the Jewish Council of Mordechai and Anna Pinheiro show that they were both registred in Camp Westerbork 21 November 1942 and deported to Auschwitz 30 November. Upon arrival there 3 December 1942 they were immediately killed.
