Salomon van Dam, born in Groningen, was a son of Hartog Izak van Dam and Juliea Polak. 6 September 1916 he married Diena Sternfeld from Renkum in Rotterdam, a daughter of Salomon Sternfeld and Dienje Cohen. Diena was previously married in 1908 but divorced in 1915 from Jacob Rudolph Manasse. From that marriage, no offspring is known.
Salomon van Dam and Diena Sternfeld had two children: Hugo Julius in 1917 and Richard Walter in 1919. The latter has survived the Holocaust. Their son Hugo Julius was killed in the Shoah.
Since 1929 the family has lived in Rijswijk but moved back to Rotterdam and lived per 14 September 1931 at Kruiskade 76 b; per 10 Augustust 1932 at Robert Fruinstraat 53 a and per 2 Januari 1935 at Schietbaanlaan 88 a. According to the registration cards by the Jewish Council, the last known address of Salomon van Dam and family was Statenweg 84c in Rotterdam.
Presumably, Salomon van Dam and his wife Diena Sternfeld were registered in Camp Westerbork 10 October 1942 (as also Diena’s sister Sophia Sternfeld). They were put on transport to Auschwitz 12 October and upon arrival there immediately killed on 15 October 1942.
