About Mozes Katz and his family

Mozes Katz was a son of Benjamin Katz and Sijbilla Philipson from Doesburg. On 9 April 1910 he married in Doesburg Sijbilla van Dijk, a daughter of Manus van dijk and Mientjen Katz. The couple had nine children, of whom only Mientjen Eva, Johanna and Roza have survived their childhood; the other six children, five boys and one girl, have died already as babied. The three daughters Mientjen Eva, Johanna and Roza were killed in th Shoah, just as their parents.

Mozes Katz was born into a family with 11 children. Of them two brothers have died in Doesburg at age 10. Two sisters and two brothers have died already before the war and of one sister nothing is further known. But Mozes self and his siblings Jetje, Eva and Diena wer killed in the Shoah.

Mozes’s daughter Johanna lived with her parents at home at Bergstraat 5 in Doesburg. Mientjen Eva was already married and lived with her husband Isaac Velleman and little son Mozes at Ellecom and Roza, still unmarried, worked as housekeeper and lived in Dieren.

Mozes Katz, of whom was taken down on his registration card of the Jewish Council that he was invalid, his wife Sijbilla and the at home residing daughter Johanna were deported on 24 November 1942 to Auschwitz  and upon arrival there immediately killed on 27 November.

Mientjen Eva katz, married to Isaac Velleman, was brought in Camp Westerbork between 3 and 5 October 1942, togehter with her husband and little son Mozes and they had to stay in barack 60. On 9 October this family was deported to Auschwitz and upon arrival there on 12 October 1942, Mientjen Eva and her son Mozes were killed immediately. Isaac Velleman however had to do hard labor and he lost his life eventually on 31 January 1943.

Roza Katz, who lived in Dieren, was brought from concentration camp Vught to Camp Westerbork on 9 May 1943 and two days later from there deported to Sobibor. Upon arrival there on 14 May 1943 she was immediately killed.
