Salomon (Sally) Vreeland, barber by trade, was a son of Machiel Vreeland and Sara Polak. He married 11 December 1929 in Amsterdam Anna Wertheim, a daughter of Juda Wertheim and Grietje Plas. The couple had a son Machiel in 1931 and they lived at O.Z. Voorburgwal 169 1st stock in Amsterdam. Sally worked as hairdresser in the business of Isaac Kroonenburg, who had is barber shop at O.Z. Voorburgwal 22-24.
11 January 1938 the marriage ended in a divorce and Sally remarried 9 April 1941 in Amsterdam to Esterina Denneboom from Zwolle. She was a daughter of Joel Denneboom and Maria Velleman and lived in Amsterdam since May 1938 as maid. Since July 1939 she lived in as such with the divorced Sally Vreeland at O.Z. Voorburgwal 169 1st stock. 1 November 1940 Sally and Esterina had a son, named Louis, who was registered at first as "Louis Denneboom", but five months later, he was legalized at the time of the wedding of his parents and received then the family name of "Vreeland".
Salomon Vreeland, his wife Esterina and his youngest son Louis, were registered in Camp Westerbork on 27 May 1943. They were put on transport to Auschwitz on 7 September where Esterina and her son Louis were killed immediately upon arrival there on 10 September 1943. However, Salomon had to endure about seven months of hardship and forced labor.before he lost his life in Auschwitz on 31 March 1944.
Salomon’s first wife Anna Wertheim remarried 1 April 1942 in Amsterdam to Levi (Leo) Groenteman, a son of Aäron Groenteman and Vrouwtje Naarden. They have been in concentration camp Vught with also Anna’s son from her 1st marriage Machiel Vreeland, but they have survived the war. Except a daughter in 1953, Anna and Levi had two sons born before the end of the war, who just as Machiel Vreeland, have survived the war too.
