About Margaretha van der Glas

Margaretha van der Glas was a daughter of Jochem van der Glas and Elsje Bonnewit. She married Alexander Bartels on 24 January 1912 in Zaandam, a son of Simon Bartels and Annaatje Leeuwin. However, the marriage ended in a divorce on 10 July 1930. Margaretha never married again.

Margaretha van der Glas was born into a family with in total five children, among them she self. The other siblings were Sophia, who died in 1923, Henriette, who died in 1909, Isaac, who was killed in Auschwitz and Sientje, who was killed in Sobibor.

Margaretha and Alexander Bartels had three children together, namely Anna, Elsje and Elsa. Elsje passed away already some days after she was born in April 1918. Both other daughters were killed in the Shoah. Margaretha self was registered in Camp Westerbork on 11 May 1943 and stayed in barack 62. On 18 May she was deported to Sobibor, where she has been killed immediately upon arrival there on 21 May 1943, together with her daughter Elsa. Her daughter Anna was killed there three weeks later on 9 July 1943.
