About Rebecca Berger

Rebecca Berger was a daughter of the in 1868 in Ostrowieck in Russia born Isaias Berger and his 2nd wife Emma Dekker, daughter of Levie Abraham Dekker and Rebecca van Vliet. He has become a widower of Lidewy van Leerdam in 1913 and remarried in 1915. Isaias Berger passed away in 1923. 

Rebecca Berger married 8 April 1937 in Amsterdam Louis (Loutje) Degen from Amsterdam, a dealer in diamonds and a son of Marcus Degen and Sientje van der Glas. The couple had two children, namely Isaias and Marcus. Isaias (also named Sjakie) did not survive the Shoah. His younger brother however did.

Rebecca Berger, her husband and little son Sjakie have been registered in Camp Westerbork on 23 March 1943, where they had to stay in barack 60. On 6 April they all have been deported to Sobibor, where they have been killed immediately upon arrival there on 9 April 1943.
