About David Aron Spier

David Aron Spier, an inspector of the Nederlandse Veehouderij Centrale (Dutch Livestock Federation) with investigative power, was a son of the livestock trader and butcher Samuel Spier and Judith de Haas. He married 10 December 1930 in Gendringen Henrietta Heijman, a daughter of Levi Heijman and Evalina van Praag. According the municipal adminstration of Gendringen, David Aron and his newly wed wife Henrietta moved after their wedding on 15 December to the municipality of Wisch. In 1935 David Aron an his wife resided in Leeuwarden and on 1 March 1938 the family moved to Hoogakkerlaan 71 in Apeldoorn.

The couple had three children, namely Judy, Ina (Ineke) and Levi Samuel (Leo). During the war, David Aron with wife and children have stayed for some time with the family of Levie van Praag (brother of Henrietta's mother) and his wife Sabine Cohen at Lange Niezel 9 downfloor and at 4 June 1943, the Spier family moved to Biesboschstraat 45, also in Amsterdam.

At the time of the registration at the Jewish Council of Amsterdam, David Aron Spier was described as a robust man and a usable worker. In possession of his diploma’s of EHBO (first aid) and typewriting and of a good health, he was employed as representive of the Social Care Department and Administration of the Jewish Council. Because of that he and his family were “gesperrt bis auf weiteres” (safeguarded from deportation until further notice).

On 20 June 1943, David Aron and his family were registered in transit camp Westerbork. David Aron stayed in barack 57 whilst his wife and children stayed in barack 61. Deportation to Sobibor followed on 6 July 1943, where the complete family upon arrival on 9 July 1943 has been killed.
