About Elise Philips van Buren

Elise Philips van Buren was a daughter of Frederik Philips van Buren and Nanny Herz. She was born in Bochum (Germany) but moved with her family, presumably in the early 19-twenties, to Amsterdam. Elise married there 28 March 1935 Karel Louis Leons, who moved those days from Den Haag to Amsterdam and who was a son of Salomon Leons and Dina Selina Wolf. However, this marriage ended in a divorce on 20 March 1939 and there were no children born. Elise remarried 1 May 1940 in Amsterdam Leon Fierlier, a son of Barend Fierlier and Aaltje Swaab. Elise and Leon had a daughter Nanny, born 30 October 1941 and lived in in the family of Elise’s parents at Zandstraat 8 II.

Elise and her little daughter Nanny have been deported from transit camp Westerbork to Auschwitz on 21 July 1942 where they have been killed immediately upon arrival there on 23 July 1942. Her husband Leon Fierlier, also sent to Auschwitz on 21 July 1942, lost his life there eventually on 30 September 1942.
