Barend Jozua Maarssen was a son of Joseph Maarssen and Sara Polak from Rotterdam. This couple had besides Barend Jozua, two other children: Isaäca and Salomon and another brother from the 2nd marriage of Joseph Maarssen. However, this little boy died only 3 months old.
Barend Jozua married in Amsterdam on 11 February 1942 to Celine van Praag. She survived the Holocaust.
