Joseph Scholte was a son of Hyman (Hijman) Barend Scholte and Leentje Mechanicus. He married Rebecca Gobitz 18 December 1889 in Amsterdam, a daughter of Israel Gobitz and Klaartje Wijnman. They had five children together, of whom one little son has died in 1898, only 2 years old. The others, Hijman, Israel, Barend and Leentje have been killed all during the Holocaust.
