Machiel Berlijn was the son of Godschalk Berlijn and Reintje Levie. He married on 30th July 1902 in Amsterdam to Hanna Flesschedrager.
They had nine children. Reintje, Kaatje, Roosje, Willem and Sara died before the war when they are young. Izak, Kaatje, Godschalk and Barend died in the war.
