About Betje Staal-Morpurgo

Betje Morpurgo was a daughter of Joseph Morpurgo and Vrouwtje de Groot. She married Abraham Staal in 1899 in Amsterdam. He passed away in 1929. They had four children, among whom Elisabeth.

Betje Morpurgo owned an antique shop. During the war she went into hiding in Ermelo, together with her daughter Elisabeth and her family. When they got a visit from a friend who also was in hiding, he was followed by policemen from Putten and they were all arrested. One of her grandchildren managed to escape.
