Hartog de Rooij was a son of Mozes de Rooij and Sara Boeken, a family with eleven children, among them Keetje, Abraham, Betje (who passed already in 1908), Rebecca, Jacob, Esther, Samson, Pinehas, Coenraad, who survived the Holocaust, Rachel and Hartog himself.
Hartog married Kaatje Lopes Dias in Amsterdam on 12 Augustus 1908, daughter of Abraham Lopes Dias and Sara Montezinos. Kaatje passed away in Amsterdam on 15 Januari 1939. They had two children: Sara and Abraham, who suvived the war.
